The Importance of Worship

What is Worship? THE EXPRESSION OF REVERANCE AND ADORATION FOR GOD!

John 4:24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.

It must originate from within, from the heart; it must be sincere.

Welcome! I am Rev. Yvonne Pettiford with Hope in the Word Ministries. My purpose is to share the Word of God with my readers and to teach and equip others on applying the Word of God to their lives and to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. In a world full of hopelessness, anxiety, and fears I want to let my readers know that there is hope through Christ Jesus. He and only He can give you salvation, peace, joy, healing, and hope. How do you get to know Him? Through God's Word! Your faith and trust in Him can grow by reading and applying His Word to your life. Romans 10:17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Blessings everyone and welcome to THE FAITH WALK!

DID YOU KNOW...

There are some people in the Bible that don't get much recognition or we don't know their names - one such person is The Thief on the Cross! We know that he was a criminal - he was crucified next to Jesus - He was brought into paradise at his death. There was a conversation between Christ and the two criminals crucified alongside Him. The first criminal mocked Jesus. The other criminal, of whom this writing is about, defended Jesus in a humble manner and acknowledged the innocence of Christ, and responded to the mocker letting him know that they deserved their punishments, but Jesus Christ did nothing wrong.

Because of his response to Jesus on the cross, the thief received eternal salvation!

LET ALL THINGS PRAISE THE LORD! Psalm 150:6 Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord!

Worship is important - Worship is important to God - Worship is important in your life! WORSHIP MATTERS!

Worship is significant. Scripture shows us that worship is not limited to a certain time or place. Praising God starts with the position of our heart and affects our whole life.

Sometimes we allow personal distractions to get in the way. Sometimes we may go to church but we don't really worship. We may sing songs, but we don't really worship. We may listen to sermons, but we don't really worship. We may serve in ministry, but we don't really worship. We may pray, but we don't really worship.

Worshiping God is acknowledging that He is worthy of praise, honor, and glory.

Revelation 5:12 Worthy is the Lamb who was slain

To receive power and riches and wisdom,

And strength and honor and glory and blessing.

When people hear the word worship, they may think of singing to music with their hands lifted and eyes closed. Often the concept of worship is restricted to a service on Sunday in a building where the congregation is led in worship by singing Christian music. Worship is not just reduced to music. God is worthy of praise and honor.

REASONS FOR THE IMPORTANCE OF WORSHIP

  1. Worship involves the surrender of our lives: In Romans 12 describes the worship of our God as becoming living sacrifices to our God, giving up seeking what we want from life and learning to know and serve what God wants for our lives. Romans 12:1 I beseech you therefore brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.

  2. Worship is putting our focus on Him When we have true worship, we have a desire to honor God. It is a personal revelation of God and is not based on our likes, our dislikes, personal preferences, or priorities. It is focused on Him! 1 Chronicles 16:29 Give to the Lord the glory due His name; Bring an offering, and come before Him. Oh, worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness!

  3. Worship involves getting out of the way: When we worship, we must remove our worries, our doubts, our problems, our own thoughts and feelings and concentrate on worshiping God. Psalm 71:8 Let my mouth be filled with your praise And with Your glory all the day.

  4. Worship involves personal sacrifice: Praise is easy when times are good, or we feel we have had a big victory in our lives. But praise requires a sacrifice or our own feelings and fears so we can give Him the focus He deserves. We ought to praise Him at all times - when we feel like it and when we don't. Hebrews 13:15 "Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name.

  5. Worship Him even through our pain and losses: King David demonstrated what it means to worship in the face of loss and pain. His baby had died. King David had prayed and prayed, but the baby died. 2 Samuel 12:20 So David arose from the ground, washed and anointed himself, and changed his clothes; and he went into the house of the Lord and worshiped.

  6. Worship is celebrating who God is and what He has done: God is God all by Himself! He is worthy of glory and honor! We must worship Him in all His splendor!

Psalm 100:1-5 Make a joyful shout to the Lord, all you lands! Serve the Lord with gladness; Come before His presence with singing. Know that the Lord, He is God; It is He who has made us, and [b]not we ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.

Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, And into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name. For the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting, And His truth endures to all generations.
